Why the Hay Meadow?

Simple - in a hay meadow you can see nature at its most abundant, hundreds of different species of plant and animal interact in a complex eco-system, so The Hay Meadow is a metaphor for our own engagement in the complexity of the natural system, which gives us our vitality - because we are part of nature and we can only remain healthy if we acknowledge that.

Introduction

The purpose of this Website is very simple, to make information available on good food and a healthy diet to everyone.

There is a lot of information now available on the subject of food, and the bookshelves of the world are laden down with unread books on diet, and our newspapers are full of articles about the poor diet of people in the West and the epidemic of diabetes in the U.S.A. and other so-called "advanced" countries.

Diets high in sugar, fats, and chemicals are also producing a generation of over-weight children, who waddle after their super-seized parents, a phenomena that is as common in countries like Scotland, as in the States of the American Mid-West. The television advertisements portray a range of sugar-laden foods, "low fat" foods that actually make us fatter and foods that rely on a complex concoction of chemicals for their taste and flavour. But food is a massive business, and it is too important to ignore, BSE and other food problems have made us more and more of the issues - this Website will give you the facts that you need to understand the problems and what you need to do about it for your own well-being and that of your family.

Not to make too fine a point we are slowly killing ourselves and our children - and it is time that we woke up to what is happening and changed the way we eat, because only by doing that will we enjoy good health.

The situation today with our diet is similar to the situation twenty years with regard to the use of cigarettes, many were in denial, and it has taken two decades for the knowledge that tobacco kills to become generally accepted.

Diet is NOT about weight-loss, it is about the health of our bodies, and when we eat a healthy diet our own bodies will naturally regulate the amount of fat we carry around.

We hope that the articles, many written by Eric Llewellyn, that you will be able to read in The Hay Meadow Journal will help you understand how you need to eat, the first step to a longer and healthy life, whether you are nine years old, or ninety.

People of the world, you have nothing to lose but your unhealthy lifestyle (and your waistlines).
